I accidentally stumbled across The Loft one Sunday evening when I was wandering around trying to find somewhere that was actually open, as the Thai and Japanese places I had wanted to try were both closed. The Loft looked pretty quiet but the menu sounded good and everywhere else that was still open was fast food.
We were pleasantly surprised when taken through to the restaurant upstairs where there were a few customers, all be it still quiet as it was late Sunday evening, and we sat opposite the bar with a great view of the open kitchen. The Loft turns into a late night bar on Thursday, Friday & Saturday but on your average night it’s a casual dining environment and a nice relaxed place to chill out with friends over some good food.
Beef carpaccio was melt in the mouth, the capers weren’t too overpowering and came with some delightful little parmesan crisp breads.
My starter of sautéed prawns came in a delicious garlic and lemon flavoured cream sauce which I mopped up with plenty of the bread from the basket brought to our table before we started on our first course. The prawns were huge and really juicy and a nice size portion as well.
For my main course I ordered Linguine Santa Maria. Fresh cooked linguine came tossed with more of the giant prawns, chicken, sun dried tomatoes, artichokes, capers and spinach. It was really refreshing to have a pasta dish served like this in the US as the American-Italian way seems to be to drown the pasta with sauce whereas a light coating like this is more authentic Italian how we’re used to it in Europe. This is exactly my kind of dish and all of the elements blended together really well. There was even a dainty little pot of parmesan on the side with a wedge of lemon so you could season to your own taste.

Running with the theme of the evening my friend ordered Grilled Prawn Skewers for her main, which I didn’t try as I was a bit prawned out by this point but reportedly they were very good. Again a really good sized portion with a generous amount of seafood but not with so much food that you have to send half of it back as you simply can’t finish it (as often seems to be the case over here).

With a modern menu good food and good portions in a relaxed atmosphere I’d happily go back and eat at The Loft again. It’d be nice to visit on a slightly busier night as I’d imagine it’d have a good buzz to it with a more packed out dining room. Overall good fresh food and it’s great to see it all being prepared and cooked in front of you, for me it really adds to the enjoyment of my dinner.
